• Stroll over to Paseo de Montejo for a view of the stately mansions and an outdoor sculpture exhibit along this tree-lined avenue. On Saturday nights, you can also enjoy Noche Mexicana, with live music from around the country. On Sunday mornings, there's an art fair featuring art for sale by local artists.

When you are staying in Merida, in addition to the attractions that are within walking distance, you are close to many of the fascinating archaeological sites that the Yucatan is so famous for. Within 100 miles of the city are the ancient cities of Chichen Itza, Uxmal, Edzna, Sayil, Labna, Kabah, Mayapan, Dzibilchaltun, just to name a few. There are also the charming colonial towns of Izamal, Tecoh, and Muna that make wonderful day trip destinations.

No trip to the Yucatan is complete without visiting one of the many beautiful haciendas that dot the countryside of the peninsula. Some of them stand in ruins, while others have been renovated and converted to four-star hotels, restaurants and museums. The beach is 30 minutes away. Excursions to swim in cenotes (underground caverns) can be arranged.
